NC Department of Transportation Update

April 16, 2024

At the February Henderson County Partnership for Economic Development Board of Directors meeting, Troy Wilson, District Engineer with NC Department of Transportation gave a short update about ongoing projects in our county and overall changes at NCDOT. You can always view active projects online. Of note for our industry partners, a few key projects were mentioned:

  • Roundabouts are becoming more popular as a safety and traffic movement tool
  • The widening of highway 191 has been delayed by 7 months because of environmental impact changes.
  • The Henderson County portions of the I-26 construction project are on schedule to be completed by this summer, while the Buncombe county portions are slated to be done by end of 2026.
  • The Four Seasons I-26 portion is currently behind schedule.
  • In July, construction of a roundabout will begin at the Cane Creek/Mills Gap intersection.
  • NCDOT has ongoing construction involving the Ecusta Trail and surrounding areas.

NCDOT, like all other state agencies, are working to keep up with the constant growth of our communities to provide the highest quality and safest travel infrastructure for our citizens.
